Mapping

The process by which students make attentional connections between corresponding or relevant information that appears in two or more representations.

For example, in geometry, students need to map between verbal references to problem features (e.g., angle ABC) and the visual representations of those features that appear in a diagram (e.g., the visual representation of two lines with endpoints A and C that meet at vertex B).
